About the team
The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Excellence) is a diverse office within the Education portfolio that contributes significantly to the oversight and future direction of the University’s coursework degrees as well as our students’ learning and teaching excellence. It also has overall responsibility for institutional monitoring, reporting, and facilitating academic quality and standards.
About the opportunity
As the appointee you will, under broad direction, play a key leadership role in the development of a capability framework and provide strategic advice to academic staff across the University with the uptake, development and evaluation of pedagogies, technologies, and resources to enhance teaching quality and support student learning.
You will scope, plan, and manage initiatives around implementation and enhancement of learning and teaching at UWA.
You will provide leadership to direct reports in each of the specified functional areas, as well as deputise where appropriate for the PVC (Academic Excellence). You will represent the PVC (Academic Excellence) and/or Chair in relevant committees as required.
You will be responsible for maintaining financial oversight and ensuring budgetary discipline across the Learning and Teaching Excellence area through collaboration with Finance and the PVC (Academic Excellence).
About you
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- A PhD qualification with extensive experience in educational leadership in higher education
- A comprehensive understanding and demonstrated ability to apply contemporary pedagogical theories and practices in higher education
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and strategic skills including the ability to analyse complex learning and teaching problems to develop appropriate, effective and innovative learning solutions
- Experience in successfully leading a team in a higher education environment to deliver strategic and operational advice and support for teaching quality, student learning, and innovative education practices
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and consult with academic and professional stakeholders at all levels to provide effective support in higher education
- Excellent planning, organisational and project management skills including the ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines and agreed outcomes, and plan and implement new initiatives and strategies
- A commitment to continuous learning and a scholarly and professional approach to work
- Financial planning and management skills, with the ability to successfully operate within budget parameters
- A willingness to travel (state, national, international).
