Thematic and research challenges

The Data Science department aims to exploit synergies between decision aiding and data science to address the scientific, industrial, and societal challenges emerging from decision problems in complex systems (environment, transport, energy, social networks, health, defense).

The team wishes to strengthen its methodological skills in decision aiding techniques, more specifically on the resolution of combinatorial and stochastic problems through operational research techniques (optimization, mathematical programming, constraint programming, meta/math-heuristics, multi-criteria decision aiding, preference learning).

Ecosystem and job context

IMT Atlantique is a leading technological university recognized internationally for the quality of its research. It is under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Digital, and is ranked in the top three international rankings (THE, SHANGHAI, QS).

The position is open on the Brest campus within the Data Science department. The host team, which is part of UMR CNRS Lab-STICC (DECIDE team) develops advanced methods, through a systemic approach centered on the different actors and decision-makers, in articulation with data mining and machine learning methodologies.

IMT Atlantique maintains close relationships with major national and international industrial partners, as well as with a dense network of SMEs, startups, and innovation networks. With 290 permanent faculty members, 2000 students including 300 PhD students, IMT Atlantique produces 1000 publications and raises 18M€ in research funding each year.

Teaching

Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique has a strong international dynamic while remaining on a human scale. In its various master programs (4 engineering programs, 14 master's programs), students are confronted with real-life problem situations through a variety of teaching approaches. The ambition is to train high-potential young professionals, capable of mobilizing a broad spectrum of skills in real-life situations, in all socio-economic fields, including research.

The candidate will contribute to teaching, in French and English, in various pedagogical forms, in data science and operations research, and more broadly in computer science (algorithms, programming, databases).

Involved both in the core curriculum and in the elective courses, he will take part in cross-disciplinary activities in conjunction with companies: tutoring projects/internships, oral presentations, coaching, etc. He will be invited to propose new projects, programs and innovative teaching approaches.

Specific Requirements

A particular and complementary emphasis will be placed on the skills of candidates in the fields of operational research in research, and data science (data mining, machine learning) in teaching. On the research side, the profile is very open, however skills in preference modeling will be particularly appreciated.
