We welcome applications from candidates whose research profile will complement, extend and further vitalize our current research in the emerging field of the history of knowledge and one or more of the following key topics: conflict, coercion, authority, heritage, and sustainability. We particularly welcome candidates working across a broad chronological range of modern history after c. 1750. Empirically, applicants are expected to focus predominantly on European societies.

The History Research Cluster forms the core group of teachers in the BA- and MA-programmes in History, with a close alignment of research and teaching. Our research-based teaching is increasingly focused on the implementation of digital history components, and the successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive role in the implementation of our newly reformed study programmes and to engage in community service at departmental and university level, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally.

An associate professorship
An appointment as associate professor is a permanent appointment which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

Qualifications and expectations
We expect successful applicants to demonstrate a solid and recognized position within their particular area of research expertise and academic qualifications at the highest international level. This includes a record of original academic output published at the highest international level. Candidates will preferably have experience in obtaining external funding and in the management and leadership of research projects.

Furthermore, Associate professors at the Department of Politics& Society are expected to engage in the strategic development of their respective research groups. This includes increasing the volume of high-end international publications, strengthening international collaboration, and attracting research funds from national and international sources of funding. The department aim at increasing its visibility and scientific impact through co-publishing with international partners and its share of publications in the top one and top ten percent of the most cited journals. The successful applicants are expected to contribute to achieving this goal.  

The Department of Politics& Society seek to strengthen its research and teaching based on social data science methods. Documented qualifications in working with digital data and data science methods are considered an advantage, although not a requirement. Courses are mainly taught in Danish. However, they can be taught in English at the BA and MA level. Applicants with little or no language proficiency in Danish are expected to be able to read and understand Danish and/ or another Scandinavian language within three years from taking up the position. The department offers a reduced teaching load in exchange for documented efforts to learn Danish.

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates and shortlisting will be applied. Hence, following the application deadline, the head of department, supported by the assessment committee chair, selects candidates for academic assessment. All applicants receive information whether or not they are selected for academic assessment. The selected applicants receive information about the assessment committee’s composition, and are allowed to comment on the assessment of their qualifications. As a final stage of the process, a statement of the outcome is sent to all applicants.
