The Regional Director’s Office (RDO) supports the Regional Director in the efficient delivery of his/her mandate and in the provision of effective leadership and coordination of the work of WHO in the African Region, including partnerships and collaboration with countries, the UN system, international organizations, bilateral and multilateral agencies and other stakeholders. The Office co-ordinates the Regional Director’s engagement and collaboration with Member States, the African Union Commission, the UN system, development partners, donors and other stakeholders. It is also responsible for coordinating the preparation of policy, technical and managerial briefs on relevant health matters to facilitate the decisions of the Regional Director and it assists in monitoring compliance in the implementation of specific executive decisions and recommendations. The Office oversees the work of the Regional Office, Country Offices and Inter-Country Support Teams in the WHO African Region and the work of the WHO Secretariat with the Member States.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Essential: University Degree in public or business administration or management, or its equivalent in technical or commercial education.
- Desirable: Further training in administration or qualification in communications or project management.
Experience:
- Essential: At least Five(5) years of work experience in executive/administrative positions in a recognized public or private institution.
- Desirable: Proven ability to work in high-paced environment and working in bilingual environment would be an asset. Work experience in UN agency would be an added advantage.
Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of secretarial skills including proven typing ability; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with staff at all levels and with varying cultural backgrounds; Excellent drafting skills with demonstrated ability in supporting the development and editing of technical documents; Knowledge of protocol; Awareness of WHO rules and regulations, policies and procedures. Tact, discretion and ability to keep information confidential are essential. Incumbent is also expected to maintain computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the Global Management System (GSM).
Use of Language Skills:
- Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Intermediate knowledge of French.
- Desirable:
- The above language requirements are interchangeable.
