OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

As a specialized Category I Institute, UNESCO-IBE is an integral part of UNESCO and enjoys considerable autonomy. lt is the International Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and Learning and is valued for its specialist knowledge, expertise and networks, and for providing curriculum support services that include up-to-date, evidence-based information and technical assistance to UNESCO Member States. The UNESCO-IBE offers strategic advice, technical assistance tailored to specific country needs, short and long-term capacity-building opportunities, and provides access to cutting edge knowledge in the field of curriculum and learning.

Within the Monitoring of Programmes and Partnerships Unit, for the extrabudgetary project “Promote life skills development and enhanced educational outcomes through sport and physical education from early ages, in line with SDG 4”, the incumbent will be in charge of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

The incumbent will work under the overall authority of the IBE Director and the direct supervision of the Head of Unit. He/she will:

Long Description

  • Assist in developing and implementing result-based management frameworks for assigned projects.
  • Work closely with other Units to ensure activities align with project objectives and intended results.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) project plans.
  • Analyse data to track progress against indicators, identify trends, and recommend adjustments if needed.
  • Prepare high-quality M&E reports and presentations for project stakeholders, highlighting key findings and insights.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project partners on Results Based Management (RBM) principles and best practices.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to strengthen the capacity of project partners teams in result-based management and M&E.
  • Ensure the systematic documentation of project activities, outcomes, and lessons learned. Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to the development of case studies, success stories, and best practice guides.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with project stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and community members.
  • Facilitate participatory processes to solicit feedback and incorporate stakeholder perspectives into project planning and implementation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of Education, Economy, Political science, International relations or a related field.

Work Experience

  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Result-based management or related fields, of which preferably one (1) year acquired at international level.

• Excellent knowledge and technical expertise in designing and implementing RBM frameworks and M&E systems or project management.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the capacity to collect, synthesize and analyse information from various sources and the ability to draft clearly and concisely.

• Excellent coordination and organizational skills, including in establishing plans and priorities.

• Ability to interact with a wide range of high-level partners.

• Ability to provide quality and timely support and services.

• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to establish good working relationships with external and internal partners.

• Strong IT skills, including knowledge of MS software (Word, Excel, Power BI etc.).

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience

  • Experience in working with UN partners, including UNESCO National Commissions, Ministries of Education, UN agencies, inter-governmental organizations, development banks, teacher education and higher education institutions, and civil society organisations on similar teacher education reform projects.

Skills and competencies

  • Knowledge of UNESCO’s education conventions and global priorities and UN administrative procedures.

Languages

  • Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and/or Spanish).

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 75 374 $.
