Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL in Iraq and the Levant (UNITAD) and will be based in Baghdad, Iraq. The Associate Protocol Officer reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

UNITAD was established by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), according to which it is mandated to support domestic efforts to hold ISIL (Da’esh) accountable by collecting, preserving and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL (Da’esh) in Iraq.
Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Associate Protocol Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
•Accompanies the Head of Mission on all official internal mission travel for protocol and liaison matters;
•Arranges and coordinate all meetings between the Special Advisor/Mission senior officials and the Government of Iraq and local authorities and diplomatic community;
•Provides protocol assistance, in close coordination with the Admin Officer as appropriate, for activities of the Special Adviser and other Mission senior management, including coordinating logistical requirements as may be required;
•Facilitates and coordinates with the Front Office of the Special Adviser on all protocol matters as they relate to host country obligations under the agreement with the United Nations;
•Maintain communication with State Protocol;
•Supports visits to venues in advance of activities and meetings and to advice on appropriate arrangements;
•Advise and organize seating arrangements for ceremonies, meetings and conferences hosted by the Special Adviser;
•Maintains and provides an up-to-date mailing list and contact information on the composition of the host country Government, the Diplomatic Missions accredited to the host country (Principal and Deputies) and regional organization present in Iraq;
•Supports the organization of Special Adviser, senior staff members and high-level UN visitors to UNITAD with regards to immigration formalities and the arrangement of the VIP lounge;
•Cooperates with Mission Support Section/Centre, in particular with Transport, Aviation and MovCon Sections as required, for internal mission travel of Special Advisor, high level UN visitors and Mission senior officials; and
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in Public Administration, Public Relations, Political Science, Law, or any other related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in government engagement, administration, political affairs or a related area is required.

Experience in protocol matters, coordinating and implementing meetings and events, including liaison with national authorities and other stakeholders is required.

Experience in working with the United Nations, other international organizations or non-governmental organization (NGO), is required.

Experience with the local network of stakeholders is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency in Kurdish and/or other ethnic language(s) of Iraq is desirable.

“Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
