Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Public Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Manages the Emergency Relief Coordinator’s and Assistant Secretary General’s Twitter account. • Tracks, researches and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns. • Works with teams in The Hague and Geneva to coordinate and plan 24-hour coverage for OCHA’s social media platforms including Sprout Social. • Generates and analyses reports on digital platform traffic and key performance indicators using Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other social media focused analytics channels. • Prepares regular dashboards and reports on performance and analytics of digital content. • Proactively creates editorial content (stories, photos galleries, advocacy images, campaigns, quote cards, video, graphics, etc.) and adapts for digital platforms. • Drafts/compiles digital communication products for target audiences. • Organizes the clearance, production and distribution of digital content material; conducts photo and graphic research. • Prepares, based on official UN documentation and other sources, initials draft of materials for inclusion in OCHA staff guidance. • In consultation with others identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, considering the situation/topic and target audience. • Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same. • Organizes or participates in conferences, seminars, press briefings, interviews, etc.; prepares briefing materials for officials prior to their participation in such events. • Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP)/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required. Experience working with social media platforms is required. Experience creating digital content is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
