Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Sudan Country Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The incumbent reports to the Deputy Head of Office, under the overall supervision of the Head of the Office. The position will be based in Sudan (Khartoum), temporarily re-assigned to Port Sudan until the conditions allow for deployment to Khartoum.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Public Information Officer NOB may be responsible for the following duties: • Tracks, researches, and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns. • Drafts and implements a communication strategy for the OHCHR Country Office, working closely with national and international partners to contribute to visibility requirements from voluntary contribution agreements. • Drafts/compiles a specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, etc.) of information communications products for target audiences, including press releases, media packets, reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, websites, etc. • Organizes the clearance, production, and distribution of information material; conducts photo and graphic research. • In consultation with others, identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities, and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience. • Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same. • Organizes or participates in the organization of conferences, seminars, press briefings, interviews, etc.; prepares briefing materials for senior officials prior to their participation in such events. • Produces and disseminates information, especially to local media and organizations about OHCHR Sudan, its aims and activities and supports outreach activities, and assists in interactions in Arabic and English. • Monitors and analyses current events, public opinion, and press; identifies issues and trends in the country, and helps to prepare notes to management on appropriate action/responses. • Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting. • Builds capacity and serves as the focal point on local capacity building in support of local media and partners through regular contact and organizing specialized training to address knowledge, awareness, and skill gaps. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science programs is an advantage.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related area is required. Experience in media communications, digital media, radio, outreach, and/or public relations is required. Experience in web and social media maintenance is desirable. Experience within the United Nations or in a similar organizational context is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
