Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the Office of the Director. The Incumbent will report to the Senior Administrative Officer in the Office of the Director.
Responsibilities
The Associate Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties: • Tracks, researches and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns. • Drafts/compiles a specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, etc.), of information communications products for target audiences, to include press releases, media packets and reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, websites, etc. • Organizes the clearance, production and distribution of information material; conducts photo and graphic research. • Develops and executes design for public information campaigns, conferences, events and meetings. Extends and develops brand identity, graphics for social media campaigns, posters, brochures, reports and web graphics; • In consultation with others identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience. • Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same. • Organizes or participates in the organization of conferences, seminar, press briefings, interviews, etc.; prepares briefing materials for senior officials prior to their participation in such events. • Responds to a variety of inquires and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree, or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required. A first-level university degree in the specified fields of studies in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience in graphic design in a working environment, including book/report design, is required. Experience working with Adobe Creative software (such as Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop) and MS Office Publisher, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available until 30 June 2024 with the possibility of an extension subject to availability of funds. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
