  • Part-time (0.6 FTE) and Fixed-term for 3 years
  • Level A $76,985 – $103,493 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time)

About the role:

The Associate Research Fellow will contribute to the project A co-designed self-management program for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples living with type 2 diabetes. The Guided Self-determination approach is an evidence-based life-skill intervention program involving self-directed or shared decision making between Aboriginal and Torre Straight Islanders people with type 2 diabetes. They will work with project colleagues and trained health practitioners, will engage collaboratively to conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship from leaders within the research team.

The Associate Research Fellow will conduct research activities in the area of Aboriginal health services and key organisations. They will work with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations, Traditional Custodians, Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, other registered Aboriginal organisations, industry partners, Diabetes Australia and professional bodies and industry partners.

This position is suited to an emerging researcher keen to explore and build on new areas and foster research and researcher development to have real-world impact and contribute to a dynamic and enthusiastic research team.

As an Associate Research Fellow, you will:

  • Conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship
  • Engage collaboratively with Aboriginal communities to participate in novel and high-quality research or activities
  • Communicate outputs and ensure impact of academic activity on the field and the community
  • Support and may lead applications for funding including competitive for research activities
  • Begin building body of work and reputation and recognition for quality, excellence and impact

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Preferable a PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience
  • Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline course
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research
  • Capacity to contribute to mentorship of research assistant and other team members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to contribute to community engagement for research
  • Extensive experience of working with Aboriginal communities in a health service context.
  • Preferable being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
