JOB DESCRIPTION
FHI 360’s Product Development and Introduction team leads development and testing of a portfolio of new contraceptive leads. The team consists of 30+ contraceptive development professionals with expertise in reproductive biology, gynecology, chemistry, epidemiology, social-behavioral science, and clinical trial and project management. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Scientist to support our user preferences research portfolio. This position will be at 50% effort.
Job Summary:
Performs research and project development in collaboration with others focused on contraceptive use behavior and preferences. Helps maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the- art principles and theories in research studies. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of research methodologies that contribute to project strategies.
Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, other essential study documents and quantitative analyses. Maintains familiarity with current scientific literature. Participates in scientific conferences and contributes to scientific journals. Provides support in corporate research and development of new research studies particularly in the area of contraceptive use.
Accountabilities:
- Assists senior scientists in developing and implementing new studies.
- Prepares proposals, protocols, research instruments and study manuals.
- Analyzes study data including qualitative and quantitative datasets.
- Researches scientific issues as required for protocol development, study operations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Writes study reports for use by internal staff, advisory committees, and funding agencies.
- Assists in the preparation of scientific papers and manuscripts for publication.
- Develops, designs, and oversees major components of more complex studies or scientific projects.
- Collaborates with team members and field investigators throughout all phases of the research study.
- Helps prepare and monitor budgets for assigned projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Applied Knowledge & Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of study design and data analysis methodologies.
- Comprehensive family planning and other sexual and reproductive health areas knowledge.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports.
- Experience with global health and research in low- and middle-income countries.
- Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills and project management expertise

- Works on problems of diverse scope that requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Demonstrates good judgment with selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Networks with senior scientists and external collaborators.

Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent • Education, Health, Biostatistics, Behavioral, Life Science, Social Sciences or Related Field.
- 5-8 years of experience in research methodologies, design and evaluation.
- Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.

- Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift or move up to 5 lbs.
Technology to be Used:
- Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
US Based Hiring Salary Range: $95,800- $119,000
International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
