The Associate Vice President for Government Affairs for State Relations is a highly accomplished individual who, working with the Vice President for Government Affairs, is responsible for the development, management, and execution of the university’s engagement with the governmental entities within the state of Ohio, including the Executive Branch, the Ohio General Assembly, and state agencies. In addition, the Associate Vice President monitors state legislative activity for potential implications and opportunities, develops advocacy strategies, works as part of a government affairs team that serves the university community and assists in facilitating university interaction with state elected and appointed officials and their staff, state agency personnel, other institutions of higher education and various constituent groups. The Associate Vice President must possess an in- depth understanding of issues affecting higher education, a keen understanding of state budget and legislative process, strong research, analytical, and communication skills. This position reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs and is based in Columbus, Ohio.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required; minimum twelve (12) years of experience in state government or related position; experience working with the state legislative branch, executive branch, and state agencies including the Ohio Department of Higher Education; a keen understanding of the state budget and appropriations process required, knowledge of issues and trends in higher education policy; strong research, analytical, and communication skills; the successful candidate must exhibit professionalism and be team-oriented.
