Special Notice:

A Short-Term Appointment is used to recruit staff to meet short-term needs. The duration of this assignment is provided above. The maximum duration of a short-term appointment including extensions shall not exceed 12 months.

A Short-Term Appointment does not carry any expectancy, legal or otherwise, of renewal and shall not be converted to any other type of appointment.

Due to the short-term nature of the assignment, the ICC reserves the right to make an appointment at one grade lower than that stated in the vacancy with a modified job description.

A current ICC staff member who is holding a fixed-term appointment may apply for any short-term position. Where a current ICC staff member is selected to a short-term position, he or she will be temporarily assigned to the position in line with section 4.10 of ICC/AI/2016/001. GS-level posts are subject to local recruitment only.

The terms and conditions of service for staff members appointed under a short-term appointment are governed by ICC/AI/2016/001.

Organisational Context

The Immediate Office of the Prosecutor (IOP) provides support to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the day-to-day fulfilment of his functions and the overall administration of the Office.

The Public Information Unit (PIU) works closely with the IOP but is a separate Unit that reports directly to the Prosecutor and is in charge of the following functions:

  • Advising the Prosecutor and the Office on information and communication strategies and media relations;
  • Disseminating information and handling public and media queries;
  • In cooperation with the IOP and the External Affairs Unit, promoting greater awareness and understanding of the work of the Office among the media, general public, affected communities, and other stakeholders of the Rome Statute system, thereby facilitating the conduct of investigations and trials, as well as support for the OTP’s activities;
  • Coordinating the information efforts of the Office to -ensure that the public message is consistent with the strategy and policy of the Prosecutor.

The PIU achieves its objectives through the use of a variety of communication means including granting interviews to media, facilitation of media projects, press releases, production of various publications and audio-visual materials as well as through the information provided through OTP pages of the Court’s official website and social media platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of the Public Information Unit, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

  • Produce and coordinate OTP videos, including messages of officials, interviews, social media videos, and promotional videos;
  • Prepare storyboards and draft outlines of OTP videos;
  • Coordinate video products required by the OTP, including liaising with internal colleagues and external actors;
  • Source video and photo materials from OTP colleagues on mission in the field;
  • Assist PIU in the preparation, selection and distribution of videos and other multimedia content on social media and on the ICC website;
  • Assist in general PIU tasks, including drafting text for multimedia and social media content, participating in editorial meetings, implementing media and social media campaigns, and planning events;
  • Performing any other duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

Education:

An Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, media studies, or related field, is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, multimedia journalism, video or television production, or related area, is required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience in writing video scripts and multimedia journalism in a newsroom environment is highly desirable
  • Excellent storytelling, narrative, writing and interviewing skills, including the ability to translate abstract and complex topics into simple, compelling video stories. 
  • Strong coordination, communication and organisation skills, and ability to liaise with individuals of various backgrounds and expertise.
  • Knowledge of digital content creation, social media platforms, and trends in video production and distribution
  • Ability to draft and compile a variety of audio-visual communication products in a clear, concise style.
  • Ability to research and analyse issues and topics related to current events;
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Canva and other editing and design software.
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively in a team.
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan and coordinate one’s work; ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Knowledge of languages:

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French is required.  Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Chinese, Russian and Spanish) would be considered an asset.

General Information
