Job Title: Associate Biologist (Wetland and Shorelines)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: Salary $46,000 to $60,000 depending on experience. Company pays 80% health insurance, and dental, vision, life insurance and long-term disability after 3-month probation. IRA matching 3% after 6 months employment. Professional training and license allowances. Flexible working environment.

Peninsula Environmental is a small, family-owned business based out of Port Angeles, Washington. We are an upbeat, innovative natural resource management company with clients across western Washington. Our clients include the public, private, non-profit, and industrial sectors. We provide biological and arboricultural consulting services. 60-70% of our annual workload is residential, the rest being comprised of non-profit, commercial, and municipal.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Candidate has some experience in wetland and aquatic resource management – this is an entry level position. Individual will assess and report on aquatic resources including wetlands, shorelines, and streams with another professional.

Candidate should have 1-2 years’ field experience in Western Washington wetland field assessments, writing wetland delineation reports and related correspondence.

Candidate should be familiar with ECY’s 2014 Wetland Rating System for Western Washington, the 1987 Army Corps Delineation manual, and 2010 Western Mountain Regional Supplement, Army Corps wetland determination form, as well as ordinary high watermark methods.

Employee will work as part of a team. Position will perform multiple tasks simultaneously under deadlines, prioritizing work, managing own time, and facilitating teamwork.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Assist in assessing wetlands and shorelands, performing delineations, ratings, development of mitigation plans, evaluation of project impacts and reporting.
  • Manage client, project, and company information in a series of cloud-based systems.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications and their functionality.
  • Knowledge and experience using scientific field equipment (e.g. Laser rangefinder, diameter tape, soil sampling devices, Munsell color system, GIS/GPS logging equipment).
  • Experience in ArcGIS a plus. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Identification of Pacific Northwest flora and fauna.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with major study in a natural science.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to complete field assessments in all weather conditions, in all terrain in Washington.
  • Ability to maintain observational focus for long periods under hot, cold and inclement weather conditions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to safely operate a 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive vehicle on paved and unpaved roads with attention avoiding injury to self and others and/or damage to vehicle.
  • Participates in team meetings, communicates status of ongoing projects and/or tasks, and coordinates work schedules with team for the purpose of maintaining open communication.
  • Implements workplace culture elements including professionalism, accountability, promotion of an inclusive environment, strict emphasis on employee safety.
  • Actively pursues advanced training in your field and relevant professional organizations.
