Job Description

 

Basic Functions: To advance the mission and values of the OU Athletics Department by gaining experience in sports marketing, advertising, event planning and production and community relations. This position is designed for any college student who has a serious interest and passion for the sports industry and is seeking an introductory experience to expose them for the first time to the field of sports marketing. Individuals in this position will be given exposure to nearly all sports that OU Athletics supports, developing basic knowledge with what is included under the umbrella of athletics marketing. The OU Athletics Summer Marketing Internship is an introductory and educational experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the Marketing staff in all aspects of day-to-day operations: event preparation, game production/execution, research, grassroots marketing, and other office and events duties as assigned
  • Complete office hours and event hours each week
  • Create a fun, engaging, and family-friendly environment at each of our competitions and community events
  • Execute in-venue fan/sponsored promotions (i.e. Ball tosses, fan interactive contests, giveaways, sponsored presentations, and activations)
  • Foster relationships with the local community involving families and children in Kids Zones and FanFest areas
  • Assist in all timing aspects of show production including band interaction, team entrance activities, spirit activities, flyovers and more
  • Assist in the execution of all aspects of game production at select sporting events to gain experience in execution and event leadership
  • Assist with marketing to the campus student body to increase attendance
  • Help identify campus clubs, groups and meetings to interact with in order to increase athletics footprint on campus
  • Learn about other marketing assets including TV, print, digital, radio and billboard advertising
  • Execution of pop-up marketing events on campus
  • Distribute fliers, posters and other marketing collateral on campus and in the community
  • Assist in the execution of community relations efforts
  • Local school initiatives and communication
  • Fan engagement at community events with marketing pop-up trailer
  • Sooner Jr. Kids Club initiatives and activities
  • Career Development
  • Networking and learning engagements with full-time staff from other departments inside the OU Athletics Department and beyond
  • Adobe Tutorials and learning sessions
  • Interaction with other internal department interns
  • Maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Conference, and The University of Oklahoma Athletics
  • Know, understand, and reinforce commitment to NCAA and conference rules, and report violations or suspected violations to the Athletics Compliance Department

 

Job Requirements

 

Required Education: High School/GED.

Skills:

  • Must be willing and able to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working in a collegiate or professional athletics marketing department

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate verbally, hear, and see including color, depth perception and clarity
