About us
The Atmospheric team is a dynamic team within Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and
Decommissioning (OPRED) – part of the Department of Energy, Security and Net Zero.
OPRED regulates the environment and decommissioning activity in the UKCS (UK Continental
Shelf), working in partnership with industry throughout the lifecycle of oil and gas activity,
promoting good practice and enabling industry compliance.
Within OPRED, the Offshore Environment Unit (OEU) regulates the Offshore Oil and Gas industry.
Our team sits within this and oversees operational and project delivery specific to the
Atmospheric function.
We also support other OPRED teams to deliver atmospheric operations.
Your work with us
As our Atmospheric Technical Lead, you will lead the team, oversee operations, and lead
projects specifically related to atmospheric work – in particular focussing on issues such as
the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, Net Zero policy and PPC Regulations.
Working closely with OPRED colleagues and managers, you’ll support a number of domestic and
international matters relating to offshore energy and provide expert advice to the OPRED Senior
Leadership team, DESNZ officials and government ministers.
As well as providing technical leadership within the Atmospheric function, you’ll advise and
support the wider Regional Delivery Programme teams on relevant legislation, work closely with
the OPRED Policy Hub on strategy and technical policy, and manage stakeholder engagement for
various government departments, public bodies, NGOs and industry representative bodies.
You’ll also oversee strategic planning for the Atmospheric function, including managing team
business, work plans, and resources, and provide strong management and leadership to a team of
Senior Environmental Managers.
Who we’re looking for
With a degree, post-graduate qualification, or equivalent experience in Climate and Atmospheric
Science, Environmental Science, Engineering or similar, you’ll bring extensive knowledge of
atmospheric emissions, including UK ETS and PPC.
You will directly manage a team of Senior Environmental Specialists and as such will need
strategic leadership skills and team management experience.
It’s also beneficial if you have experience within offshore oil and gas industries, including
gas unloading and storage and carbon capture and storage.
The benefits you’ll receive
Join us and you’ll receive a wide range of excellent benefits, including a Civil Service
pension, flexible working options and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity.
You’ll also enjoy learning and development tailored to your role, flexible working options and
a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity.
We value diversity and inclusion and actively encourage and welcome applications from everyone,
including those that are under-represented in our workforce. We promote equality of opportunity
in all aspects of employment and a working environment free from discrimination, harassment,
bullying and victimisation.
Closing date: Apply before 11:55pm on Sunday 27 October 2024.
