Department Description and Cultural Expectations | The South Dakota Services for the Deaf (SDSD) was established in 1880 to serve children identified deaf or hard of hearing. Since that time, SDSD has worked to provide quality educational support services for children identified deaf or hard of hearing (birth through high school graduation or until age 22) and their families. The school’s mission includes consultation with families and educational teams statewide, and comprehensive student evaluations, including audiology services and hearing screenings. These services are being provided at the SDSD Sioux Falls and Rapid City Clinics, and through our statewide traveling Mobile Lab. SDSD serves as a resource for families and local schools by providing a specialist in hearing loss as a member of the educational team. |
