The OpportunityReporting to the Business Solutions Architect, the Automation & Integration Specialist plays an important role in enhancing organizational efficiency by facilitating the seamless integration of applications and systems for the Corporate Development, Applied Research and International (CDARI) division at SAIT. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, the role is responsible for assessing current systems to identify integration and automation opportunities, working with teams to define objectives for solutions and assisting with planning and executing related projects. The Automation & Integration Specialist is responsible for collaborating with functional and technical teams to analyze existing business processes to identify and reduce manual processes or tasks through effective automation solutions. The role will leverage existing and new technologies to design and implement automated workflows and solutions, monitor their performance and gather feedback to optimize efficiency and drive process improvement. The Role - Application & System Integration
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to assess current applications and/or systems and identify opportunities for integration.
- Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to define integration requirements and objectives.
- Assist with planning and executing system integration projects, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.
- Establish data connections between key applications and systems to enable data sharing and real-time updates.
- Monitor data flows and resolve data integration issues promptly.
- Maintain expertise in all key tools, applications and systems as well as relevant integration architecture and standards.
- Process Automation
- Analyze existing business processes to identify automation opportunities.
- Work collaboratively to design and implement automated workflows and solutions to eliminate repetitive and manual tasks.
- Configure automation solutions in existing tools, applications and systems and/or recommend new technologies.
- Monitor automation processes and gather feedback to optimize performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process optimization.
- Maintenance & Support
- Develop and execute test plans for automation solutions and integrations.
- Identify and resolve any issues in the automation processes.
- Ensure that integrated systems and processes meet the specified performance and functionality requirements.
- Document integration and automation processes, including architecture, workflows and configurations.
- Prepare user guides and training materials for end-users and stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing support for integrated systems and automated processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or errors promptly.
- Implement updates and improvements to keep applications, systems and processes current.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Represent the department and division on divisional or institutional projects and initiatives as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology or a related field or a combination of education and related experience
- Proficiency in system integration tools and technologies
- Knowledge of database management and SQL query creation
- Preferred
- 3 years of experience in computer science, information technology or a related field
- Experience researching and building API-based integrations
- Knowledge of database management and SQL creation
- Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, Java, Powershell)
- Experience leveraging AI to improve SQL queries, data analysis and integrations
- Experience with automation tools like Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software
- Experience with Banner, Destiny One, SQL, Smartsheet , Axiom and Boomi is a strong asset
Skills Required
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency researching and building integration solutions using APIs.
- Proficiency in integrating different systems and applications, including the ability to connect and synchronize data between them.
- Knowledge of database systems and queries including SQL for data extraction, transformation and loading processes.
- Understanding of APIs for connecting and exchanging data between systems.
- Experience with middleware solutions like Boomi, Axiom and Smartsheet Bridge.
- Experience with Banner, Destiny One and Smartsheet is an asset.
- Experience with AI tools for improving programming, SQL queries and other data or analysis-related tasks.
- Familiarity with automation tools and platforms such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software.
- Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:
- Ability to analyze complex problems, identify opportunities for automation and design effective solutions.
- Skilled in diagnosing and resolving integration issues and system failures.
- Capability to analyze data flows, identify patterns and make data-driven decisions for process improvements.
- Strong ability to work independently to complete tasks and to identify and detail roadblocks requiring support.
- Attention to Detail and Time Management:
- Superior attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and process reliability.
- Excellent time management, planning and work prioritization to meet deadlines and deliver results on time.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with stakeholders, explain technical concepts to non-technical users and document integration and automation processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies to assist in planning and executing integration and automation projects effectively.
- Ability to provide support and training to end-users, helping them understand and make the most of automated processes.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Capability to create comprehensive documentation for integration processes, workflows and system configurations.
- Proficiency in using tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, JIRA and Visio for documentation and reporting.
- Innovative Thinker:
- The capacity to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex integration and automation challenges.
Job Classification: Systems Analyst I
Salary Range: $63,830.34 – $90,000
Hours per week: 37.5hrs
