Overview: This position is part of a partnership between Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever (PFQF) and the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). Under the direction of PFQF/AZGFD staff, crew members will conduct water catchment management work on state and public lands. The incumbent will be a full-time employee of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever and is based out of the Phoenix, AZ area. This unique opportunity will include the applied use of a wide variety of habitat management techniques specific to wildlife water management, while also providing opportunities to work with partner agencies and organizations, provide technical assistance, and assist with outreach efforts.
Duties: The two-person team will install, maintain, and monitor remote water sensor stations, perform minor water catchment maintenance and perform other duties as assigned. The positions are based out of Phoenix, AZ but will work in remote locations, statewide. Extensive travel will be required and will include camping out and staying in remote housing facilities. Major responsibilities include:
- Maintenance of existing remote water sensor stations statewide.
- Installation of remote water sensors stations statewide.
- Removal of existing remote water stations that are no longer required.
- Hauling water to fill water catchments.
- Maintenance of existing water catchments statewide.
- Procure supplies and equipment.
- Assist with outreach and education efforts as needed.
- Perform other water management related duties as assigned.
- Jobs will require odd hours and extensive travel/time away from home.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- A solid understanding of different types of wildlife water catchment systems, remote water sensor systems, and maintenance/construction that might be required for each type. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in remote water sensor systems and installation of such systems.
- Experience in construction, electronics, and radio systems.
- Experience in operating GPS and other electronic mapping applications.
- Experience in basic map reading and land navigation.
- High school diploma.
- Safely operate 4×4 vehicles in difficult terrain.
- Experience camping and working in hot desert environments.
- Ability to draft and follow a ‘high risk field activity plan’.
- Experience hiking up to 5 miles with 40 lb packs.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies.
- Ability to work in a team setting and independently with little supervision.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Experience hauling trailers and other equipment.
- Comfort working in, on, and around a helicopter.
Training and Experience Guideline: Any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the applicant to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. More than one year of work experience in installation and maintenance of remote monitoring systems preferred.

Housing: The incumbent will be expected to find housing in Phoenix, AZ or in the surrounding area.
