We need someone passionate about bat conservation who will support VWT’s Bat Team by managing reserves, overseeing bat projects and reporting on conservation
interventions. The Trust’s work focuses on smaller carnivores and rare bats in Britain, Ireland and
Europe.
The Conservation Team has a track record of delivering ground-breaking projects such
as translocating and re-establishing pine marten to mid-Wales, running the first project
to build climate change resilience into bat roosts, and developing molecular techniques
to monitor population change in woodland bats.
You will step into a role collaborating on a national survey of barbastelle and
Bechstein’s bats, manage bat reserves that hold significant populations of Britain’s horseshoe bats
and assist with our rare woodland bat ringing and bat box schemes. You will also
collaborate with our PhD students and Science Team to help deliver innovative projects and
concrete conservation interventions for rare bats.
This role offers an unrivalled opportunity to manage some of Britain’s largest and most important bat reserves. Your contribution will be crucial in supporting the delivery of a wide range of bat conservation projects, working closely with volunteers and wider partners to promote knowledge exchange and advocate our approach to bat conservation more widely with our stakeholders and the public. Your role is integral to our conservation efforts and we value your potential contribution.
You will need to hold, or be training for, a bat licence and ideally have a
combination of bat conservation experience, including surveys, project delivery, administration and coordination skills.
The Trust offers a quality employment package, but more importantly, we offer you the chance for continued professional development and the opportunity to engage with your peers in Britain, Ireland and potentially abroad. We value your growth and believe in providing you with the necessary support and opportunities to excel in your career.
Salary: £28,000-£33,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is an initial full-time, fixed term contract of 15 months from 1 July 2024 to 30 Sept 2025 (with possibility of extension to a full-time, permanent role).
Deadline for applications is Midnight on Sunday 2 June 2024 by email to [email protected] or by post to: Vincent Wildlife Trust, 3-4 Bronsil Courtyard, Eastnor, Ledbury, HR8
