Bats are remarkable and essential to our environment. The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is the
foremost non-governmental organisation dedicated to bat conservation and habitat protection.
Our mission is to secure bats’ future in a changing world.

The British Bat Survey (BBatS) and NightWatch are the newest citizen science surveys run by BCT
within the National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) – a world-leading citizen science programme
which produces population trends for British bat species.

We are now looking for a BBatS / NightWatch Survey Assistant to join us on a part-time basis,
working 24 hours per week, for a six-month fixed-term contract.

The Role

As a BBatS / NightWatch Survey Assistant, you will collect information on local bat populations
for BBatS and NightWatch.

Assisting in volunteer management, you will recruit and support new volunteers, contributing to their engagement whilst participating in BBatS and NightWatch.

You will support the delivery of NightWatch events to target audiences, as well as configuring survey equipment, administering our equipment loan scheme and preparing and sending
survey packs to volunteers.

Uploading returned data to our Sound Classification System, you will monitor project
participation via the project’s admin system and respond to enquiries from volunteers and the
public.

Additionally, you will:

  • Disseminate survey results to project participants and wider audiences
  • Contribute to project updates and reports
  • Assist in keeping the project website updated
  • Undertake an equipment audit at the end of the survey season

About You

To be considered as a BBatS / NightWatch Survey Assistant, you will need:

  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science

The closing date for this role is the 15th April 2024.
