Are you passionate about making a significant contribution to the conservation of beach nesting
birds?

We are looking for a dynamic influencer and organiser to continue to develop an England Beach
Nesting Bird Programme.

The England Beach Nesting Bird Programme aims to bring together conservation partners to
improve the recovery of our increasingly vulnerable beach nesting birds, primarily ringed
plover, oystercatcher and little tern.

What’s the role about?

This is an amazing opportunity to be at the forefront of beach nesting bird conservation within
England.

You will bring your knowledge and experience of beach nesting birds to drive forwards the
recovery of these species.

You will be a dynamic and motivated individual, with excellent communication skills to develop
collaborative working relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders. You can
motivate and inspire others to get things done, whether you are line managing them or not.

This programme aims to grow capacity for species recovery by working alongside our partners to:

  • Identify the most important sites for ringed plover, oystercatcher, and little tern
  • Improve data collection on population and productivity levels for the respective species
  • Develop research to test & trial solutions for the long-term recovery.
  • Develop species recovery strategies
  • Develop & share best practise
  • Develop & facilitate a peer-to-peer support network
  • Collaborate with others to strategically co-ordinate the management of beach nesting birds
  • Collaborate with others to identify and support habitat restoration and creation
    opportunities for beach nesting birds

Essential skills, knowledge and experience: 

  1. Ecological knowledge of beach nesting birds & other coastal species
  2. Proven experience delivering practical conservation in relation to beach nesting birds
  3. Successful project management experience
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  5. Demonstrable leadership ability, able to lead without line management authority
  6. An ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people, both internally and externally
  7. Proven time management and organisational skills
  8. Proven ability to develop and maintain successful partnerships and working relationships
  9. Excellent problem-solving skills and find creative solutions for issues
  10. Able to adapt to changing circumstances and meet deadlines
  11. Logical & methodical, analytical and a good eye for detail.
  12. Cost and budget management
  13. Skilled use of Microsoft Office and associated software

This is a Fixed-Term Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week. The role is funded until 31 March
2025.

 The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further
advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
