Job Summary
This individual is responsible for the ongoing administration and process documentation of RIT’s benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Benefits include group health plans, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, education benefits, retirement plan and retiree benefits. This work includes interfacing with the HRIS team for system needs, including vendor file feeds. In addition, the individual is responsible for ongoing auditing, employee data updates, metrics and dashboards, the Benefits website and RIT Service Center portal for benefits, including managing benefits customer service tickets and responses to RIT call center agents.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform monthly and quarterly benefits audits of HRIS system and external vendors. Audit HRIS information on monthly basis to confirm correct sick and vacation accruals/balances, family member verifications, group term life imputed income, etc. Coordinate annual employee data updates for total compensation statements, surveys and other annual processes.
- Represent the benefits function in systems-related work with HRIS team, including updates needed related to the annual benefits open enrollment. Collaborate with HRIS regarding maintenance of the benefits modules and with the automated services available from carriers. Identify technical needs and issues. Responsible for implementation and updates for ongoing and open enrollment vendor file feeds and reconciling errors.
- Responsible for benefits portal in the RIT Service Center (RSC), including creating, updating, and retiring knowledge articles as well as finding new ways that the RSC can help streamline the benefits work. Assign RSC tickets to appropriate benefits representatives.
- Manages RIT Retirement Plan including daily participant requests, HRIS updates, coordinating on-site employee meetings, financial projections and tracking, executive contributions, required annual compliance notices, non-discrimination testing and annual small balance distribution.
- Maintain benefits website and employee presentations. Write, proofread and edit content. Develop and manage editorial calendar to ensure timely content.
- Ensures the effective operation of the team through process improvement and coordination of processes across functions. Identifies ways to streamline, automate, and incorporate changes into daily operations. Minimize manual processing through utilization of technology available on campus and through third party providers. Document and update processes.

Required Qualifications
- 5+years of benefits administration experience. Higher education experience a plus.
- Hands on experience with HRIS or benefit enrollment systems and reporting
- Advanced analytical skills, including Excel
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, adapting knowledge and experience to situations; ability to troubleshoot
- Interpersonal skills; ability to interact successfully within and outside the organization; customer service orientation
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Proven experience managing multiple deadline-driven priorities; demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects
- Ability to initiate as well as manage change
- Self-directed, works with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Working knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws, particularly employee benefit laws and regulations
