The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 24 member organizations of the Pension Fund. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 250 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). Visit www.unjspf.org for more details. This position is located in the Pension Entitlements Section within the Operations Service Unit of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The incumbent reports to the Chief, Pension Entitlements Section, and to the Chief of Operations of UNJSPF.
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of Chief of Unit, the incumbent performs for the following duties: 1. Administering and managing participation and separation processes, as well as complex post retirement matters in respect of staff of member organizations of the Fund, including the determination and calculation of all types of pension benefits as well as the pension adjustment system. In this respect, among other things, participates in: •planning and organizing the work of the Section, including the assignment of work and setting of priorities; •developing and implementing new methods and procedures, as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the section; •in cooperation with the Information Management Systems Services (and the Financial Services Section, OSS and the PES Geneva), providing analyses and other technical input in respect of systems and processes used by the Section and advising on the design and evaluation of new or enhanced systems and ensures the implementation of changes in the Regulations and Rules Fund or of the Pension Adjustment System as approved by the General Assembly; •Originating and/or approving communications prepared by the Section; •replacing the Chief of Section or anyone of the Unit Supervisor during his/her absence. 2. Work with and guide the Benefits Officer in performing other duties such as: •carrying out inter-agency activities related to the determination and clarification of procedures and practices regarding participation and separation matters; •in the preparation of studies and analyses on various aspects of participation in and processing of benefits, as well as on related systems, procedures and practices including information systems used by the section; •providing input to senior management on policy issues concerning benefits and entitlements. 3. In connection with his/her supervisory duties, the incumbent, among other things: •In the absence of the Chief of Section serves the representative for all contacts between the section and the Secretaries of Staff Pension Committees and other administrative staff of the organizations/entities of the Pension Fund in respect of the section activities; •Assists in authorizing and/or approving the work processed by the different units, including the benefit amount to be paid for processed benefits, the release of completed cases for payment and the recovery of monies owed to the Fund as well as all correspondence and other materials prepared by the Section •Investigates and resolves particularly difficult cases which require intervention at the supervisory level; •Performs all administrative supervisory functions, including performance evaluations 4. Undertakes special assignments at the request of the Chief of Section and/or senior Management such as liaising with other sections of the fund on special projects and streamlining exercises, handling new development, managing and overseeing projects, delivering reports from BI dashboard and assisting with audits.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in business administration or public administration, finance, management or related area is required. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) five years of progressively responsible experience in the area of employee benefit administration, finance or human resources or related area is required. Three years of experience in managing teams is desirable. Three years of experience in working in defined benefits pension schemes is desirable. Experience with ERP system is desirable. Experience within the UN common system and International organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
