ECCD Background:

The Eagle County Conservation District (ECCD) is a Title 35 Special District, established to represent landowners, water rights holders, and agricultural producers, and to assist them with conservation practices and natural resource management. ECCD:

• Offers technical assistance through programs, consultations, site visits, education and outreach;
• Offers financial assistance through cost shares and rebates;
• Conducts research to monitor and track natural resource concerns;
• Advocates for local land stewards through policy and legislation.

Beyond Lawn Program:
Beyond Lawn (beyondlawn.org) is dedicated to promoting waterwise landscaping practices that conserve natural resources and enhance the beauty and resilience of outdoor spaces for private landowners in Eagle County. Our goal is to provide landowners with technical and financial assistance to replace unsustainable landscapes with waterwise/native plants and meadows that are adaptive to our Rocky Mountain climate.

Position Summary:
Beyond Lawn is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Summer Seasonal Program Technician to assist our Natural Resource and Horticulture Specialist (NR + H Specialist). The Program Technician will play an integral role in supporting education and outreach efforts, assisting with participant communication, managing scheduling logistics, conducting onsite assessments, and providing personalized reports on conservation strategies for landowners. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainable landscaping and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

• Education & Outreach:
  Assist in delivering educational content related to sustainable landscaping practices, water-efficient gardening, and the use of native and resilient plants. Help prepare and distribute resources, guides, and newsletters to program participants and the broader community.
• Participant Communication & Scheduling:
  Act as the main point of contact for landowners participating in the program. Coordinate and schedule onsite visits, follow up on inquiries, and ensure smooth communication with participants regarding program updates, workshops, and available resources.
• Landscape and Irrigation Assessments:
  Assist the NR + H Specialist with on-site visits to assess current landscaping practices and outdoor water inefficiencies, and to identify opportunities for improvement
• Personalized Conservation Reports:
  Assist the NR + H Specialist with detailed reports for each landowner, including tailored recommendations for water efficiency, native plants, and other conservation strategies based on the assessments. Ensure reports are clear, actionable, and aligned with the goals of the Beyond Lawn program.
• Data Management & Documentation:
  Maintain accurate records of site visits, participant interactions, and recommendations. Assist Program Manager in tracking program progress and outcomes for ongoing evaluation.
• Team Collaboration:
  Work closely with the Eagle County Conservation District team members and collaborate with all stakeholders and partners to support program goals. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and program evaluations.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or coursework in environmental science, horticulture, sustainability, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience in environmental science/education, horticulture, landscape design, or customer service is required.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• A passion for sustainability, water conservation, and native plant ecosystems.
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and traveling to participant sites.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to participant sites.
• Must be available for full-time work during the summer season.

Duration: May 15 – September 15, with the opportunity to return for following summers.

Compensation: $26/hr.

Schedule: 40 hours/week (Monday-Friday, with some flexibilities).

Housing and Vehicle: Housing is not provided by ECCD. This person will need to have or be able to obtain housing in or near Eagle County. This position must also be prepared to commute to/from the office as well as to landowner’s properties. An ECCD vehicle may be available, otherwise mileage spent on the job will be reimbursed at government rates.
