To reinforce the innovation team, Cefic is looking for an Bioeconomy Manager (F/M/D).

Mission of the role

Reporting to the Executive Director Innovation, the Bioeconomy Manager will help organize and manage Cefic´s activities in the field of the Bioeconomy, Biotechnology and Biomass derived chemicals. Current key priorities focus on the contribution of biomass derived chemicals to the transition of the chemical industry towards a climate neutral, circular and overall sustainable industry as devised in the EU Green Deal. In addition this role will focus on industrial Biotechnology as a key enabler for the chemical industry as whole.

In this role you will contribute to create the conditions for the biomass derived chemistry for an increased growth in the chemical industry using your expertise on Biotechnology to making Cefic an stakeholder in this space.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?

You will:

  • Represent the European chemical industry on the key issues in your areas of responsibility and establish the links with related activities at member state and European levels to ensure alignment and consistency of positioning in the political debate;
  • Drive progress on Bioeconomy and Biotechnologies in the European chemical industry;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the overall European strategy for Cefic and translate the approved strategy into objectives, plans and budgets for the Bioeconomy activities;
  • Establish, maintain and extend the network of relationships, and alliances with the various industrial players (including downstream industries), EU institutions and consumers;
  • Engage with and understand the positions of other associations and stakeholders and engage in a constructive dialogue, and prepare reactive and proactive statements;
  • Facilitate the achievement of common positions within Cefic´s membership, support the development of advocacy plans, and coordinate the input of the chemical industry in public consultations and surveys;
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to ensure consistency with the other activities of Cefic.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or other science related topic;
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in biomass derived chemistry and/or biotechnology preferably within industry or alternatively within trade associations;
  • Results driven with proven project/program management skills;
  • Team player, ability to network and build relations in an international and multicultural environment;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely and deliver well-organized and convincing presentations;
  • Ability to develop consensus of diverging opinions and comfortable to work with senior management of Cefic´s membership;
  • Highly energetic, self-driven personality with a passion for making an impact;
  • Balanced approach towards managing technical as well as non-technical challenges;
  • Proficiency in English (written and oral), additional European languages are a definite asset;
  • Ready to travel (max. 10-20%);
  • Prepared to live in Belgium (Brussels).
