The Institute for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC, Head Prof. Dr. Philipp Henneke) is looking as soon as possible for a

Bioinformatician (m/f/d, PhD)

with focus on the analysis of large genomic, gene expression and gene regulatory network data sets.

 
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic team focusing on different aspects of infection, immunology, and adaptation of immunity across life. We aim to recruit a bioinformatician to complement our expertise and to develop an individual research focus within our research team.

Your profile at the IPC: 

  • analyses of high throughput genomic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, proteomic, digital spatial, and other ‘omics data in healthy and disease states
  • close interaction with the bioinformatics and immunology teams of Katrin Kierdorf, Julia Kolter, Tjibbe Donker and Philipp Henneke
  • analysis of multiscale single cell ‘omics data in in experimental and human models
  • reference genome and transcriptome assembly and annotation across species
  • perform rigorous and reproducible data analyses along with graphics and spreadsheet output
  • development and implementation of custom analysis pipelines in collaboration with wet lab scientists
  • develop your own projects and work independently on a variety of data analysis projects
  • increasing development of own projects and acquisition of third-party funds in the course of time

Required skills:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Genetics/Genomics or related field
  • experience with ‘omics platform output
  • experience with biological datasets and next generation sequencing data. Graphical output of data analysis for publication
  • demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and designing computational methods and tools, including prior experience with algorithms relevant to computational biology
  • documented programming skills, e.g. in Python and R
  • very good communication and organizational skills with the ability to work to timelines, both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • a strong interest to acquire biological knowledge and work together with life scientists
  • very good communication skills in English
