Biological – Agricultural Engineer

The Trust is seeking an engineer for a wide range of conservation projects, including wetland restoration, erosion control, animal waste management, and agricultural water management.  The individual should like to travel, work outside and have excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.  The ideal candidate would be a handson people person with a common-sense approach to day-to-day problem solving.  Most of the work will include supervising project construction and collecting project data, including topographic surveys, for restoration plans.  Other responsibilities include assisting with preliminary planning and plans of operation, reviewing project designs and specifications, and conducting project as-builts.  The position will work closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) so prior experience working with NRCS is preferred.  The position will be located in Gainesville, FL.  A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.  Preferred specialization is Agricultural, Biological, Civil, Environmental, or similar field.

Candidates should have experience in the following areas:

  • Topographic surveys, including the use of total stations, GPS-RTK and network rovers, and laser levels
  • ArcGIS and analysis applications
  • AutoCAD, Carlson Civil and/or MicroStation
  • Wetland Restoration design and implementation
  • Agricultural water management design and implementation
  • Agricultural conservation design and implementation

It is preferred, but not required, that candidates have experience with:

  • Hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software including Streamwise (ICPR), HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS/TR-55, Geo- RAS, Hydraflow, HydroCAD, and/or similar software
  • USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) conservation programs, state conservation practices, standards and specifications
  • Experience working with state and federal agencies, private landowner, earthwork contractors, and construction inspectors.
  • Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.   The Trust for Tomorrow provides employees with 10 days paid sick leave, 10 days paid annual leave, and 11 Federal holidays.
