Biological Science Technician

We are hiring four seasonal biological science technicians (GS-5) to work at Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge (Plush, OR) and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (Denio, NV). The Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex is located in the high desert of southeast Oregon and northwest Nevada and manages over 900,000 acres, primarily focused on sagebrush communities and wildlife. This is a 6-month seasonal term, ideally starting between March and May and continuing through September or November (depending on your start date). The primary duties of this position will include, but are not limited to: 

• Post-fire recovery monitoring
• Vegetation restoration monitoring
• Photo point monitoring
• Stream restoration work
• Bighorn sheep habitat assessments
• Juniper habitat assessments
• Sage-grouse lek counts
• Pygmy rabbit and pika surveys
• Wildlife camera deployment/photo sorting
• Native seed collection and application
• Invasive species surveys

 Work hours average 40 hours per week. The ideal candidate is field hardy with a strong work ethic and positive attitude. Technicians must be able to work well with others and independently in an isolated environment, following established protocols with excellent attention to detail. Previous plant identification experience and ATV/UTV experience is preferred but not required. Shared housing is provided on-refuge (~$250/month) and a work vehicle is provided for work-related travel.

This is a 6-month seasonal term, starting March – May 2026.
