USFWS Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge is recruiting one biological science technician to assist with biological program projects during the 2025 field season. Projects may include: aerial bear and mountain goat surveys; ground-based bear, mountain goat, deer, or habitat surveys; invasive species management; and assisting other programs (visitor services, maintenance) in completing their work. Work distribution is expected to be approximately: 10% training; 10% aerial surveys, 35% on-the ground monitoring and management, 35% data entry, management, and reporting, 10% assisting other programs.

The Kodiak Refuge headquarters office is located in the town of Kodiak, but the refuge is accessed by small airplane. A flexible schedule, including work on weekends as well as remote camping or cabin use with prolonged periods of no cell or internet service will be required. Weather and insects (rain, wind, mosquitoes) can be challenging, and a positive, team-oriented attitude is a must. Field gear will be supplied.

When not in the field you will be based in the town of Kodiak. In town, a USFWS bunkhouse is available with shared rooms for rent for the season (~$300/pay period). A shared government vehicle is also available for limited personal use in your off time.

Season duration will be dependent on funding, up to 1040 hours (6 months) but may be shorter. Start date is will be between April and June and end date will be 10/4 at the latest, but may be sooner.
