Compensation Range

Job Summary
To provide expert guidance in the area of designing statistical methodologies, statistical modeling, and evaluation for the UBC Reproductive Infectious Disease (RID) Program at the Women’s Health Research Institute, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.
Major responsibilities include:
Organizational Status
The position reports directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Post-Doctoral Fellow, and interacts with other research personnel in the lab, including project co-investigators, staff, and trainees.
Work Performed
– Designs statistical methodologies for new and ongoing research projects – formulating research questions and hypotheses, selecting/devising study designs, designing study samples and developing study procedures
– Conducts data cleaning and builds analyzable datasets as directed by the PI
– Performs statistical analyses as directed by the PI
– Develops proposals for follow up analyses as a result of performing and interpreting the results of the initial analyses
– Acts as a consultant to team members and other colleagues, providing advice on analyses and
data management and conducting analyses for collaborative research
– Selects/designs appropriate analytic and evaluation procedures, especially statistical methods, including multi-level modeling
– Prepares tables and figures for manuscripts
– Provides guidance and supervision for data management and analysis for graduate student
projects, postdoctoral fellows and other collaborators and trainees, advising and participating in data management, and statistical analysis and research design
– Prepares ethical review submissions
– Develops, modifies and maintains code
– Aids in the preparation of publications and presentations
– Updates investigators and collaborators on progress of research project analyses
– May attend scientific meetings and present posters and papers
– Keeps abreast of new developments in data management and analysis
– Ensures timely notification of issues/problems to the Principal Investigator
– Other related duties as appropriate
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The candidate will be accountable for the effective execution of all research related activities.
They are required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner, suited to proper activities of the University of BC, the granting agencies, and to the professional organizations governing themselves and those governing the activities of all other investigators. Any procedures or data recorded as part of a study must be reliable and accurate, reflecting the work performed. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to, and all privacy requirements in place through any third-party data sources must be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so can lead to delays in scientific results of projects and questionable integrity for the project. All activities are accountable to the Principal Investigator.
Supervision Received
The candidate will work quite independently with wide latitude for exercising independent
Initiative and judgement, but will communicate with the PI, and other supervisors, as appropriate.
Supervision Given
The candidate may be responsible for giving direction to trainees or other research staff, including demonstrating techniques to students as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in Statistics. Minimum of two years of related experience in research analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Statistics or Bachelor’s Degree with strong emphasis in Statistics is preferred. Two or more years of experience in a biomedical research environment preferred.
– Evidence of expert coding skills in either Stata, SAS, or R (although we would consider relevant
expertise with another software program)
– Evidence of superior understanding of statistics and quantitative health research
– Experience with research coordination and research administration
– Exceptional interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills
– Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
– Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
– Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
– Ability to work with inter-institutional and/or interdisciplinary teams
