Combine your passion for disability rights and inclusion with policy and strategy expertise – apply to join the Disability Council, the official adviser to the NSW Government on issues affecting people with disability.
Meeting four times a year, the Disability Council NSW advises the government, raises community awareness about people with disability, and promotes an inclusive community.
There will be some work outside of the meetings, for example reading papers and preparing reports, as well as representing the council at events or other committees.
Being on the Disability Council NSW is not a ‘job’, but members get paid:
- sitting fees to attend meetings
- for travel, accommodation and other reasonable requests as part of the role.
The council provides reasonable adjustments for members, for example, Auslan interpreters at meetings.
Who should apply?
We are seeking applications from people with:
- lived experience of disability, and/or
- experience working in disability organisations, and/or
- other experience with disability policy.
We especially encourage applications from people:
- with one or more of these skills to support the council executive: undertaking research, collaborating with stakeholders and drafting position papers
- who are young, Deaf, autistic and/or neurodivergent, Aboriginal or from the LGBTIQ+ community, or who have experience working at community and local levels.
Successful applicants will be recommended for appointment by the Hon Kate Washington MP, Minister for Disability Inclusion, and can hold a term of up to four years.
