Job Description: Bookkeeper
Terms of Employment: Part-time
Pay Rate: $30/hr
Benefits Eligible: Partial
Location: Remote
Immediate Supervisor: Chief Advisor for Strategic Development and Oversight
Position Description:
The bookkeeper plays a vital role in the daily accounting and administrative processes of CNS. Responsibilities include but are not limited to serving as QuickBooks Online administrator, processing payroll, managing company benefits and insurance, generating budget reports, processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, and other related financial data and compliance.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain electronic entity and admin files.
- Share management of admin email.
- Platform account setup and monitoring.
- Serve as QuickBooks Online (QBO) administrator.
- Balance and maintain accurate ledgers in QBO.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Monitor financial accounts, reconcile monthly statements, and prepare financial reports.
- Draft annual budget and monitor cash flow.
- Provide information to CPA for annual non-profit audits and federal and state tax returns.
- Send donation thank you letters and generate annual contribution statements.
- Maintain fixed asset log.
- Track paid time off.
- Process biweekly payroll.
- Apply for and monitor state payroll tax accounts.
- Ensure third-party payroll vendor files payroll taxes.
- Maintain payroll reports.
- Shared management of BambooHR responsibilities.
- Manage company benefits.
- Maintain health and business insurance by working with an insurance broker.
- Perform special assignments as requested.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to CNS’s mission.
- Non-profit bookkeeping and fund accounting knowledge and experience (3 years required)
- In-depth understanding of and experience in QuickBooks Online (3 years required)
- General human resources knowledge, including Federal and state employment laws (3 years preferred) – aPHR certification is a plus.
- Payroll experience (3 years preferred)
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft applications (or ability to learn quickly)
- Proficiency in Zoom, Stripe, and PayPal (or ability to learn quickly)
- Confident, self-motivated, and a true team player with a strong work ethic.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent multitasking and project management skills.
- Well-organized, with a high attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
- Ability to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Flexible, and able to work well with senior management and board members.
- Passion for learning and figuring things out (and helping others do the same)
