Job Summary The Bowdoin Store Associate works as part of the Bowdoin Store team to provide excellent customer service. This role plays a part in the successful operation of the Bowdoin Store. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • provide customer assistance;
  • assist with receiving, stocking, merchandising, and web sales;
  • provide additional assistance in Mail Center as needed;
  • use computerized POS system to process customer sales and returns while maintaining confidentiality;
  • participate in position coverage for daily breaks, lunches, employee absences, vacations, and during special events;
  • maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all retail, storage and office locations.

Compensation:

  • $18.00/hour
Education/Skills Requirements
  • Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Applicants must demonstrate superior customer service and communication skills and have a friendly, helpful, outgoing demeanor.
    • Must be self-starter who stays productive during slow business periods and can work at a quick and efficient pace when it is busy.
    • Flexible, dependable, punctual, and courteous.
    • Basic computer skills
    • Bowdoin Store employees are expected to be well groomed and meet department standards for professional attire.
    • This role will require a pre-placement physical and criminal background check.
  • Preferred:
    • Associate’s degree
    • Experience with point of sale (POS) systems
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
  • Required:
    • 1+ year of experience in customer service role

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in shipping/receiving and/or retail operations, especially in a college environment, is very helpful.
Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Please note: This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position.
  • Hours will vary between 8 and 18 per week and are at the discretion of the Associate Director and Director of The Bowdoin Store, although an effort is made to accommodate personal schedules and staff may trade shifts among themselves.
  • Schedules will vary and be between Monday through Friday during store hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including some weekend coverage.
