Black Theatre Workshop (BTW) is currently seeking a Box Office Coordinator to coordinate our box office and school tour. They will work with the Managing Director and are responsible for the overall logistical and organizational aspects of the school tour and communications with schools. This could include on-site visits and developing relationships with stakeholders.

Organizational Overview

BTW is a ground-breaking theatre company committed to showcasing and fostering Black Canadian artists, inspiring dialogue and broadening understanding across the country. BTW is Canada’s longest running theatre company dedicated to the works of Black and diasporic communities. Its mission is to promote and produce outstanding theatre that educates, entertains and inspires. The company strives to create greater cross-cultural understanding by expanding the representation of Black Canadian artists.

Currently BTW produces one to two mainstage productions per year, as well as a touring production. Other related activities include a theatre festival, a play reading series, various smaller events and fundraisers.

The tasks and responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:

School Sales & Box Office

  • Coordinate all aspects of school sales for group bookings.
  • Plan and execute all aspects of the box office in liaison with the various venues.
  • Take ticket reservations including in-coming reservations, reservation sheets, confirmation calls, telemarketing campaigns.
  • Contact potential groups and target audience markets for group sales.
  • Manage box office issues that may arise, answer questions and solve problems.
  • Collect and process data from Audience Surveys.
  • Manage the Box Office on site at events, including complementary tickets for openings.
  • Coordinate and train volunteers and ushers when needed.
  • Establish new box office initiatives.

School Tour Coordination

  • Liaison with schools to facilitate the dissemination of BTW production information.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school representatives and coordinate visits and workshops in the schools as requested.
  • Be responsible for the logistical and organizational aspects of the school tour.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions in the overall program process.
  • Liaise with the Producer and Stage Manager to ensure that information needed is organized and shared.
  • Prepare study guides for productions as needed.

Requirements:

  • Interest in theatre or the arts
  • Excellent communication skills (in English and French)
  • Proficient with Microsoft office programs
  • Able to work in a fast passed environment with tight deadlines
  • Able to work in person from our Montreal office

Salary range

$18/hour for 35 hours a week

30 week contract

Start date in August 2024
