The British Bat Survey (BBatS) sits within The National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) and
aims to use new passive acoustic monitoring methods to fill in gaps in trends for
underrepresented species, habitats and geographical areas.

We are now looking for a British Bat Surveys Project Officer to join us on a part-time basis
for a nine month fixed-term contract, working 15 hours per week over two days. There is the
possibility for the role to be extended up to the end of March 2027, depending on additional
funding.

The Role

As a British Bat Surveys Project Officer, you will support the delivery of the BBatS project.

You’ll recruit volunteers through the promotion of the survey, supporting them throughout the
survey season and co-ordinating the return of data before uploading findings to our sound
classification system.

Working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you’ll manage the analysis of data
and the reporting of results, identifying potential improvements for future projects.

Additionally, you’ll manage the purchasing of equipment and the equipment loan scheme.

About You

To be considered as a British Bat Surveys Project Officer, you will need:

• Experience of recruiting and working with volunteers and/or working on citizen science
  projects
• An understanding of bat survey techniques, in particular acoustic surveys
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent project management skills
• At a minimum, GCSEs in English Language and Maths at Grade C (Level 4) or equivalent
