SALARY: $70,000-$75,000/annually

ABOUT AAFSC:

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a
non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in
1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent,
trauma-informed social services. Our mission is to empower
immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully
acclimate to the world around them and become active participants
in their communities. While our doors are open to all, AAFSC
has developed cultural and
linguistic expertise in serving members of NYC’s
Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, Muslim, and South Asian
(AMENAMSA) immigrant and refugee communities. AAFSC
promotes mental and physical well-being and community power.
We ensure families are knowledgeable about their rights and
equipped to participate in civic society with confidence
and security. We help prevent child abuse, and work
to end domestic- and gender-based violence.
We provide the tools for learners of every age to
succeed. Finally, we help lift up the voices
and needs of under-represented communities and champion gender-,
racial-, restorative-, and immigrant justice.  

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary functions of the Budget Analyst include
weekly and monthly accounting and finance functions such
as preparation and creation of budgets and budget
modifications for all grants and organization,
perform Budget vs. Actuals and variance analysis in
GL, investigate and address the budget variances through
P&L analysis, monitor contract budget spending
and ensure maximizing utilization of funds, provide
programs and Resource Development team with the
proper expense coding information for accurate expense allocation
in GL, work closely with the RD team and programs
to determine appropriate salary allocations per approved
budgets, update and maintain the master salary
allocation file on a regular basis with the proposed
changes, update and maintain salary allocations by
employee file, coordinate with HR for the staff
changes report and apply those changes on the salary
allocation files, upload and submit the budgets and
budget modifications for all grants in different government, city,
and state systems, make any necessary follow-ups with RD team,
programs and funders with regards to any budget related
work, assist with audit and other ad-hoc finance
projects as assigned.

The Budget Analyst will provide financial and
accounting support to the senior staff. This position
requires a high level of accountability and
responsibility, attention to detail and accuracy, strong
analytical and problem-solving skills, highly
effective time management skills, strong interpersonal
communication skills, resourceful, organized, and
proactive work attitude. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Developing, analyzing, and modifying budgets to allocate current
resources and estimate future financial requirements.

Making recommendations for budget allocations through
comprehensive analysis.

Providing advice and technical assistance in preparing annual
budgets, budget modifications/renewals and/or amendments.

Monitoring various contracts and analyzing expenses to
facilitate Program Directors’ objectives.

Effectively communicating, interacting, and collaborating (via
phone contact, quarterly meetings, etc.) with AAFSC management
& staff, funders, etc.

Tracking progress and status of all funder/internal audits (e.g.
scheduling, completion, documents requested, drafting reports,
response to finding).

Assisting with preparing budget templates during annual
budgeting process.

Completing other budget related ad-hoc projects
as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in AAFSC meetings and internal and
external training.

Remain updated on technical and professional knowledge by
attending educational workshops, joining professional associations,
building networks with fellow professionals,
and reviewing industry publications.

Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects assigned
by Vice President of Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES OF OUR IDEAL
CANDIDATE:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting or
Finance

Minimum of two years general accounting experience,
not-for-profit preferred

Has an understanding of U.S. GAAP, not-for-profit
preferred

Strong analytical skills a must

Highly organized and ability to work both independently and
collaboratively

Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal form
and relate effectively to others at all levels in the
organization

Knowledge of Sage Intacct a plus but not required

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office,
including Excel and Word
