Position Summary:

Applies professional budget techniques in analyzing and preparing financial documents.  Provides analytical support involving budget projects.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Provides daily setup of new accounts in accordance with budget and agency guidelines or contract.  
2.  Reviews all expenditure and encumbrance transactions for institutional and agency allowability.  
3.  Creates and maintains budget positions control numbers for payroll personnel.  
4.  Maintains sponsored agency files on a daily basis. 
5.  Acts as initial point of contact for fiscal problem resolution; acts as the institution’s area of expertise on sponsored agency guidelines.   
6.  Advises administration and staff regarding available options and budgetary implications.   
7.  Assists in preparation and maintenance of operational budgets for departments; reviews expenditures to ensure conformance to budgetary provisions.  
8.  Compiles data and prepares reports. 
9.  Maintains basic to complex financial system tables.   
10.  Reconciles all billing problems for agency research contracts.  
11.  Processes requests through Institutional Prior Approval when necessary.   
12.  Furnishes statements required by funding agencies such as Relinquishing Statements, Inventions Statements, audit reports, etc, as well as preparation of financial reports.  
13.  Closes accounts at termination. 
14.  May perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

None

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a business related field; or, relevant experience in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience:

Two years experience in the accounting, payroll, or budget area.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
