Ethiopia is situated in the Horn of Africa and is the second most populous country on the continent with an estimated population of 115 million. It borders six African countries: Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan, and covers 1,104,300 square kilometers. Approximately 85 percent of the population lives in rural areas. Ethiopia represents a melting pot of ancient cultures with Middle Eastern and African cultures evident in the religious, ethnic, and language composition of its people.
Over the past two years, children and their families across Ethiopia faced multiple and complex emergencies, such as the conflict in the northern Ethiopia and the drought, which resulted in millions of people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. UNICEF has programmes in Child Protection, WASH, Health, Nutrition, Social Policy, and Education and serves over 15 million children in Ethiopia. How can you make a difference?
Background:
The holder of the position has two main functions:
The Specialist is: (i) a financial analyst, reviewing cost and programme data, analyzing and interpreting financial information and preparing reports; (ii) a liaison, coordinating and giving advice to programme managers and partners to ensure effective budget preparation, an effective and efficient management of financial resources during budget implementation and the consistent application of financial rules, regulations, policies and procedures; and (iii) a team member, working together and supporting the work of other staff of the country office and implementing improvements in the country office’s processes with the use of new technology and best practices where necessary.
The European Union and ECHO are extremely important donor partners to the UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office. This position will act as the focal person for donor relations management stewardship, ensuring that all requests are responded to in a timely, coordinated and high-quality manner, and in line with UNICEF policies.
The position holder will also provide capacity building to the Country Office to strengthen alignment to donor conditions in line with the Framework Agreement such as adherence to donor visibility, donor reporting, eligible expenditures etc.
