Weekly Hours: 37.5

Work Location: On-site; Hybrid eligible once eligibility is met

ABOUT CHRISTIAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) is a fully accredited ecumenical graduate school located in Indianapolis, IN related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and serving the whole people of God. We welcome all faiths to explore/ engage in an intellectually rigorous, spiritually formative, and emotionally supportive education that equips our students to go out into all the world and serve—whether that is in the church or out in the community. CTS also offers a robust counseling program that provides professional counseling preparation and spiritual/theological integration for those training to become mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, pastoral psychotherapists, and spiritual care specialists.

POSITION SUMMARY

The successful candidate will serve as the seminary’s budget officer and as a senior member of the seminary finance team. The candidate will be responsible for the overall budget of the seminary and grant budgets including budget development, modeling, and monitoring. This position coordinates the finance portion of the seminary ERP system. In addition, this position is responsible for student billing and coordinates related activities with the financial aid director and the registrar.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Preparation and monitoring of the institutional and grant budgets
  • Responsible for issuing monthly financial summaries and periodic financial statements, publishing periodic grant summaries
  • Management of student billing accounts
  • Annual audit responsibilities – both internal and external
  • Responsible for financial analyses including but not limited to program evaluation, and benchmarking all aspects of the Seminary.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with financial policies of the seminary, grantors, federal government, and other funding sources
  • Contribute to department-specific and overall business strategies of the seminary
  • Implement streamlined reporting tools utilizing the seminary ERP system and reporting tools.
  • May serve on a variety of seminary committees and interact with the seminary constituent groups.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

The successful candidate will report to the vice president for finance and operations and should possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to fulfill the essential functions of the position, demonstrating experience and proficiency in the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse constituencies, internal and external to the seminary in an effective, courteous, and productive manner.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and managing processes that bring about the successful completion of specific deliverables.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and forecasts and translate information to non-financial personnel.
  • Program planning, management, and execution skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a collaborative environment.
  • Time and project management skills, including attention to detail, deadlines, and deliverables with a propensity to bring projects or issues to closure.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Easily adaptable to change.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Word and Excel.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational, regulatory, and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply creative solutions to problems where limited standardization exists.
  • Have or develop a detailed understanding of non-profit accounting and reporting.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently with minimal supervision.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field; MBA preferred
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting principles or financial management
  • Financial reporting and analysis experience
  • Experience presenting at a Board and senior leadership level
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software, corporate principles, and financial analysis
  • Experience in a seminary, theological institution, faith-based, or social services organization is preferred, but not required
