The BAS Controls Engineer (BACE) maintains a comfortable and safe environment through the management of the Building Automation System (BAS), lighting control systems, and monitoring based commissioning systems. The BAS Controls Engineer works as the campus subject matter expert pertaining to Building Automation Systems. The Building Automation Systems are implemented in every major construction project at BU to provide high quality of HVAC control, comfort, and energy savings in high performance buildings.
What you’ll do:
You’ll work within a team on the maintenance and operation of the Building Automation Systems with periodic updates, repairs, and improvements. Including the management and updating of Graphics, Programming, Alarming, Checkout and Trending (GPACT) on all Building Automation Systems.
· Update graphics to latest version to provide a clear schematic view of the system. Implement campus standard programming to provide clear and consistent system operation. Ensure alarming is configured in the proprietary system as well as the aggregated alarm manager for the Operations Service Center. Functional check out equipment to look for issues, sequence of operation updates, energy efficiency opportunities, and proactive mechanical repairs. Implement trending, charts and reporting on all required points within the campus multiple systems.
· Review monitoring based commissioning systems for faults, alerts, and alarms.
· Support CPO PDC and Major capital projects. Attend the Construction meetings and collaborate with project managers, commissioning agents, engineers, occupants etc. to understand the design intent, owners’ expectations, and work to a technical resolution.
· Review contractor submittals and shop drawings for construction projects.
· Performing field inspections of equipment and various mechanical systems associated with the projects.
· Witness equipment startup.
· Review Daily Alarm log and work with HVAC technicians on HVAC issues of the day.
· Support the 24/7/365 operation service center with any alarming or technical issues. Uptime of this system is of the upmost importance to the facility operations.
· Work directly with occupants to schedule repairs and provide updates and explanations in all spaces around campus from highly technical animal science spaces to office spaces.
· Communicate status regularly to the client and internal management.
· Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the campus wide BAS specification and construction guidelines.
· Assist Electricians in troubleshooting and repairing lighting control systems.
· Assist with Training to the Electricians on all BAS systems.
· Work with Energy Efficiency vendors and Utilities to provide data as required for engineering analysis.

· Associate degree, vocational education training, or technical degree in a related field.
· Must be proficient with common computer software including Windows and Office suites.
· Working knowledge of building systems and operations including HVAC, Power, and Life Safety systems
· Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
· Ability to work independently or in a group.
· Must successfully pass background checks as determined by the University at the time of hire and continue to meet standards of the background check throughout the period of employment.
· Willing to learn and operate new software.
· 1-3 years related experience with maintenance, repair, or installation of Building Automation Systems.
· Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Preferred Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
· Experience with simple Graphic Design.
· Experience with Schneider Electric Continuum or EcoStruxure.
· Experience with Distech ECnet 4.
· Experience with Siemens Insight.
· Experience with Johnson Metasys.
· Experience with digital logic design.
· Experience with computer programming languages.
