The Building Automation Systems Specialist 1 supports university operations and maintenance by performing preventative maintenance and service calls on environmental control systems, DDC, lab and fume hood systems, and pneumatic systems. Uses various meters and hand tools to troubleshoot peripheral devices associated with DDC systems, HVAC equipment, and fire life safety systems. Regularly uses specific manufacturer’s software to read and write temperature control programs and build system graphics on DDC systems.  Under general supervision from an administrator or higher-level technician, performs skilled to highly skilled repairs, adjustments and maintenance of direct digital controls and mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components of various automated university systems and equipment.     

Experience :

Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.   12 months or 1,200 hours training in mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC technology, and six (6) months or 600 hours training in programming and electrical circuitry. Considerable knowledge of computers, digital controls, electronic and safety practices, HVAC and pneumatic technology, and reading blueprints.  Skill in operating shop equipment, power tools, pneumatic controls.  Ability to work independently on many tasks, cooperate with other personnel on group projects.  Routinely lift moderate to heavy (20 to 100 lb.) equipment.  Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages and read and write common vocabulary. Desired: 12 months of experience as a DDC Systems Specialist 1. 

Additional Information:

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $60,000-$71,500 annually.
