WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The ARFO Burn Crew Member (BCM) participates in wildland fire operations which include prescribed fire, fireline preparation, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring, and other tasks as assigned. They may perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire.

As part of the BCM’s ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials. In addition, they shall work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. The Burn Crew Member may assist on wildland fire operations in other parts of the region with federal, state, or private partners, or travel to other areas of the state or out-of-state to assist other TNC programs or partners on prescribed or wildland fires. All TNC staff actively participating on a prescribed burn must be qualified as a FFT2.

They may perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Overnight travel within the state will be required to perform job duties.

This is a short-term, full-time, 4-month position (July to October). Pay is $17/hr.

The ARFO Burn Crew Member position will be based in or near Little Rock, AR.
    
WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain the qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn serving under the supervision of a qualified FFT2 as a requirement for this position.  See TNC Fire Management Manual.
  • Must achieve physical fitness standard as determined by local Prescribed Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Management Manual.
  • Experience operating various types of equipment.                      
  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR).

SALARY INFORMATION

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is an hourly rate of $17 and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
