Job Summary
UT Tyler University Academy at Palestine Campus is looking to build a pool of candidates for bus drivers. As openings become available, applicants will be selected for interviews. This position is responsible for the safe operation of University vehicles and excellent customer service to passengers.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Drives and operates university school/shuttle buses and other vehicles on assigned routes.
- Provides service to charter school students, employees, and visitors.
- Checks condition of vehicles and reports needed adjustments and repairs.
- Maintains mileage reports.
- Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend assignments may be required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of commercial driving experience including minimum of one year of experience driving a passenger/school bus.
- Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (cdl) class b with air brake, passenger (p) and school bus (s) endorsements.
- Texas school bus driver’s certification
- Must pass a driver’s license history check and criminal background check.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause and random alcohol and drug screening during employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, safety procedures, vehicle mechanics, route/areas, passenger management, and first aid.
- Driving, communication, customer service, observational, and problem-solving skills.
- Stress tolerance, situational awareness, time management, and adaptability.
- Competent in safety orientation, regulatory compliance, and technology.
Other Information
The employee will be on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 19.5 hours per week, for the instructional days defined by University Academy District Calendar .

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
