About the opportunity

As the Business Development Manager for the National Centre for Cultural Competence (NCCC) you will provide senior University wide leadership of strategic efforts to identify new opportunities for commercialising the NCCC education resources and other intellectual property.
The BDM will develop, deliver, and facilitate strategies, advice, and programs to position the NCCC as a leading provider of cultural competence education and research with industry partners.
The BDM for the NCCC will report to the Academic Director, NCCC, with regular consultation as appropriate with the NCCC academic team and other relevant staff and units. This will ensure a uniform and coordinated approach to industry engagement and commercialisation across the University, while meeting the specific needs of the NCCC.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a highly collegial, tight-knitted team, reporting to the Academic Director

  • develop and implement strategies that will enhance the utilisation and impact of education programs and research through collaboration and partnerships with industry partners

  • manage the development and delivery of a commercialisation strategy

  • lead and support the creation and growth of an entrepreneurial culture within the NCCC

  • identify, foster and maintain new and existing industry, non-government and end-user partnerships

About you

  • demonstrated high level of understanding and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies and demonstrated superior experience in working and communicating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and racially marginalised people , government, industry and civil society

  • demonstrated project management skills and familiarity with contract and legal issues particularly pertaining to IP as it relates to the outputs of the NCCC

  • experience in evaluation of commercial opportunities from education, research, or technology developments (as per the current work of the NCCC)

  • ability to develop strategies to commercialise some of the work of the NCCC, developing new opportunities to foster industry and end-user partnerships for our education, training, and research programs

  • ability to work with a team to help foster an entrepreneurial culture to further develop partnerships between the education, research, business and government communities that align with the NCCC’s strategic objectives and those of the Indigenous Strategy and Services portfolio.

  • excellent strategic planning skills and ability to manage competing demands in a well-structured manner.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
