About the Role
This role will support QMUL researchers in the Medicine and Dentistry (Health) Faculty to develop academic partnerships with businesses with an emphasis on collaborative R&D schemes (e.g. Research Councils, Innovate UK).
The role is based within an established Business and Partnerships team that is part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. The post-holder will work closely with the academic staff to understand institutional and faculty priorities and develop collaborative projects with government, other research institutes and industry partners in high priority areas. Within the team the post-holder will have a particular responsibility to prospect for and initiate collaborative grant applications within a wider remit of engagement with industry partners. Additionally, the post holder is required to work closely with other Professional Services staff, particularly those who are functionally aligned with business engagement, research development and management including the Joint Research Management Office (also part of the Research Services Directorate) and Queen Mary Innovation Ltd.
Reporting to the Senior Partnerships Manager Health, the post-holder will be required to interact and work cooperatively with the wider Business Development and Partnerships team. This role is client (internal and external) facing and the post-holder is expected to be at the clients’ site or on campus for three days per week.
The successful candidate for this busy and diverse role will be a science graduate, ideally possessing a relevant post-graduate qualification. You will have experience of the HEI or similar sectors and possess knowledge of the UK research funding landscape and knowledge exchange. You will have experience in a business development or income generation role, and be able to build collaborative relationships with funding partners. You will have experience in the writing and reviewing of research proposals, show attention to detail and be able to produce high quality funding applications. Experience in the development and management of collaborative grant proposals and projects is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are a key requirement, as it the ability to manage and prioritize tasks within a busy portfolio of activities. The post holder is also required to show effective communication and relationship management skills whilst working with multiple and varied stakeholders.

The post is based at Dept W situated between the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 2 January 2024. The starting salary will be Grade 6, £52,549 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
