Scope of work

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Business Mentor will develop and implement a comprehensive mentorship program to support entrepreneurs who have previously received business grants and established their businesses. The primary objectives include fostering business sustainability, addressing challenges, and enhancing market linkage and visibility. Collaborating closely with the Program Manager, the consultant will ensure the identification of specific business goals for each participant, developing a tailored mentorship plan with well-defined objectives and tasks. Continuous monitoring of progress, coupled with timely adjustments to tasks, will be essential in the process, with a commitment to providing detailed progress reports to the Program Manager. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening market linkage and visibility through targeted strategies and networking opportunities. Additionally, the Business Mentor will engage stakeholders, facilitate training sessions for skill development, and conduct ongoing assessments to optimize the program’s impact on the participating businesses.

 

Key deliverables

  • Create in-depth business profiles and conduct SWOT analyses for 12 businesses, utilizing previously gathered data.
  • Under the guidance of the program manager, develop a mentorship program to assist 12 business owners in overcoming challenges, addressing gaps in their operations, and facilitating their growth to meet their business goals.
  • Conduct biweekly visits to each business owner and perform a one-on-one training session complemented by ongoing support through regular phone calls.
  • Establish a consistent monitoring system to track progress, accomplished objectives, and tasks, intervening proactively to address challenges as they arise, and submitting detailed monthly reports.
  • Conduct a final evaluation of the targeted businesses, showcasing progress and achievements, and compile a final report summarizing the overall success and impact of the program.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness management, business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant may be preferred.
  • Extensive experience in the agriculture sector, preferably with a focus on agribusiness management, operations, and/or entrepreneurship.
  • In-depth understanding of various agricultural practices, market trends, regulations, and challenges specific to the agribusiness industry.
  • Proven track record of success in business development, strategic planning, and financial management within the agribusiness sector.
  • Strong understanding of business principles such as marketing, sales, supply chain management, and risk assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and coach individuals or teams, providing guidance, support, and constructive feedback.
  • Experience in developing tailored mentoring strategies and action plans to address specific needs and challenges of agribusinesses.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data and good report writing skills.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic. Kurdish is a plus.
