Responsibilities:
Business operations planning for improving the profitability of revenue-generating activities:
- Reviewing current business operation plans and analyzing where investments should be made for strengthening or improving the viability of DNR’s revenue-generating assets. Conducting research and analysis to inform internal customers on strategies for creating new or improving existing business operations plans for each revenue-generating asset.
- Researching and reporting on new business lines and return on investments, performing cost-benefit analysis for potential business decisions, and investigating possible outcomes of business decisions and their effect on revenue and investment potential.
- Performing periodic analysis of return on investments and performance of asset classes ensuring that investments are made to strengthen the revenue-generating opportunities within DNR’s portfolio. Making recommendations based on these analyses and trends to guide managers in making necessary adjustments.
Progressing business process improvement:
- Providing expert advice and consultation on navigating the diverse issues affecting both DNR and its trust beneficiaries.
- Monitoring, researching, and analyzing proposed or pending changes in business process requirements, policies, and procedures, and their potential impact on business functions, and recommending appropriate responses to assist in the implementation of those changes.
- Creating quarterly financial profit and loss statements for internal and external stakeholders, and the Board of Natural Resources. Improving financial statements to move from a government reporting model to a business reporting model.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance and accounting, public administration, land or asset management, natural resource commodities, or related field AND five years of experience that must include at least two of the following areas:
- Analyzing policies, laws, rules, and regulations, and establishing guidance.
- Managing business operations or natural resource assets.
- Leading business projects, business finance projects, or policy development and guidance.
- Conducting research and analysis of business lines or commodities, market trends, asset management, or finance.
- Developing requirements and recommendations.
- Leasing or sales of natural resource commodities such as timber, wheat, minerals, etc.
- Implementing process improvement.
OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency as an expert in the use of Microsoft Excel.
