In Burkina Faso, the WFP, through an assistance strategy aimed at responding to the humanitarian emergency, strengthening the resilience of communities and supporting sustainable development efforts. In collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and partners of the United Nations system, WFP organizes monetary or in-kind transfers to meet the food needs of families affected by conflicts or climatic hazards, provides school meals which promote access to education for girls and boys, support the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, provide technical and financial support to groups of small agricultural producers to improve their production and access to the market. 

GOALS :

The WFP office in Burkina Faso is looking for an Assistant in Communication with Communities Affected by Crises. The successful candidate will support WFP Burkina Faso in monitoring communication plans as well as engagement mechanisms with populations assisted by WFP.

DELIVERABLE AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Support for holding consultations with affected populations Focus groups are conducted using visual or audio support or materials with key messages specific to the context of intervention for the purposes of awareness-raising and community engagement;   
  • Support for training on accountability and community engagement through the use of WFP resources;
  • Assistance in conducting awareness campaigns using innovative technologies as in WFP intervention areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist teams in implementing the community engagement and accountability plan; 
  • Support teams in transmitting key awareness messages in existing information and communication channels and in monitoring feedback mechanisms and the use of appropriate communication channels ;
  • Support existing systems of accountability to crisis-affected populations through research and learning to inform future programming of communication activities with communities.
  • Monitor files for the communication of information intended for the community (radio broadcasts, local campaigns, theater, communication media, etc.) covering the main themes and programs of the WFP; 
  • Support the holding of consultations with affected populations including community leaders to identify unmet humanitarian needs, solutions to identified problems as well as perceptions of WFP operations in intervention areas; 
  • Provide assistance in carrying out missions and field visits to support field offices in improving accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Education: Minimum BAC. University degree in journalism and media, communications, international relations, history, sociology, Anthropology, Human Rights, Humanitarian Rights, etc. is an asset.  
  • Experience: At least four years of general experience including three years in humanitarian projects especially related to the establishment of communication systems aimed at promoting expression and/or community participation in a given country. Experience working in humanitarian operations and conflict zones preferred.   
  • Skills:  Excellent level of interpersonal skills and
