The opportunity – Community Action Groups (CAG) Somerset
You will be supporting the successful running of the Community Action Groups (CAG) network in Somerset. CAG
Somerset empowers community groups to act towards a more sustainable future, focussing
primarily on the areas of reuse, repair, waste reduction, sharing, surplus food and composting.
We provide community groups with the tools and support they need to thrive such as support with
governance, guidance, small grants, training and insurance, and opportunities for networking
and sharing skills with other groups.
What you will be doing
Day to day project support:
- Responding to enquiries from groups, organisations, and businesses.
- Co-ordinating training and events, using systems such as TicketTailor.
- Attending CAG and other project events and occasionally planning meetings (including
evenings and weekends where required). - Assisting with group and event risk assessments, insurance documents and related
administration. - Creation and dissemination of guides and resources.
Publicity and communications:
- Supporting maintenance of the CAG Somerset website, and
ensuring project websites are well maintained and up to date. - Managing social media
accounts. - Keeping social media presence up to date and increasing CAG visibility.
- Assisting
groups with effective publicity for their events. - Holding basic 1:1 social media surgery
sessions with CAG members. - Producing a regular CAG newsletter, encompassing news, events,
funding. - Producing CAG publicity material, news releases, and articles, including designing
graphics and posters.
Administration:
- Ensuring communications with CAG groups are logged within the project database.
- Managing and updating mailing lists (Mailchimp, SurveyMonkey, Outlook, etc.), ensuring GDPR
principles are followed. - Monitoring projects, utilising tools such as Excel, SurveyMonkey and bespoke project tools.
- Supporting with quarterly and annual reporting.
- Gathering regular website and social media analytics data.
- Assisting project teams with administrative tasks.
The essentials
- Passion for the community/voluntary sector.
- Strong interest in sustainability.
- Experience of maintaining and developing websites and social media.
- Competent IT user, particularly in Word, Excel, Outlook, and web-based platforms.
- Good presentation skills.
- Previous experience in a communications, marketing, and/or public engagement role.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Great people skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Current full driving licence with own transport or ability to travel easily within Somerset
County.
